Founded in 2001, Commonweal Consulting was born out of the desire of its principals, Tracy Velazquez and Dennis Alexander, to enable nonprofit organizations and public interest groups toeffectively fulfill their missions. Commonweal Consulting provides top-notch consulting, writing and editing, and training and technical assistance to non-profit organizations, communities and universities, with an emphasis on organizations focused on public health and social justice. Tracy Velazquez has over twenty years’ experience in the independent sector, including management, communications and fundraising. She has been active in state and local politics, having run as a statewide candidate and managed issue campaigns. For six years, she has been a fellow at the Center for Lobbying in the Public Interest. Tracy earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Montana State University. In addition to her consulting work, Tracy has served as executive director of statewide and national nonprofit organizations, including the Montana Mental Health Association and the Justice Policy Institute. Dennis Alexander has provided technical assistance, training and campaign consulting around the country. He served as executive director of a multistate region of the American Lung Association, and has been involved in health-related non-profit organizations and civic groups for over twenty years.
